A Disappointing Update but a Restored Marriage

I have a disappointing update today.

On August 14, Zine broke his leg in two places.  Surgery was debated back and forth for about a week.  It was decided due to his history of pulmonary emboli, we would not do surgery.  I think we have all had second guesses on that decision.

Disappointing to Hear 4 More Weeks Again

His bone healing has been extremely slow.  4 weeks ago we went expecting for Zine to be released to weight-bearing.  However, new bone growth was barely there.  Today, we went back for repeat x-rays and to see the doctor.  Once again, we were told 4 more weeks.  His new bone growth has improved, but still not to a place that the doctor feels comfortable releasing him to weight-bear.

We are going to start a calcium supplement to see if that will help stimulate bone growth.

We tried to go today with absolutely no expectations.  However, even though we went without expectation, disappointment still came.  4 more weeks of “lift life,” which Zine describes as the worst carnival ride ever.

The good news is that we have only had one argument in the past five months of being near-permanent sidekicks.  I count that as a marriage win.  Six years ago, our marriage wasn’t nearly as happy as it is now.  I’m so grateful for what God has done in each of our lives and in our marriage.  Home is much more pleasant than it used to be.  True story–one of our worst marriage fights happened in an ICU room.  Nurses came in to make sure all was okay.  How embarrassing is that?  God truly has restored our relationship.

Transition to Vanderbilt

I don’t think I have shared here, but we are transitioning Chloe to Vanderbilt.  She is moving from pediatric doctors to adult doctors.  It’s a long story as to how we ended up here.  However, each time we go or have a telehealth visit, God confirms over and over that we are in the right place.  We have both found it quite difficult to trust new doctors.  However, it helps that each visit with each new specialist confirms this is God’s plan for her.  She has received truly amazing care.  She has appointments for the next two Fridays.  At that point, we will have met all of her new doctors.

She has already started a new migraine medication.  It is an injectable medication on a monthly basis.  She had no problems sticking herself this month.  She is truly a rockstar.  I think if I had endured what she has endured over the last twenty years, I would have given up on life.  It is expected tomorrow that she will start another new medication for pain.  We have uncertainties about this step, but two doctors have confirmed this is the way in which we need to walk. However, apprehension abounds in both of our hearts.

Book Excitement

I am excited to let you know that my book has been to the content editor, I have made corrections, and now it is back in the hands of a content editor.  It seems surreal that this is actually happening.  I looked at Zine the other night and went an author?  I’m really an author??  Never ever did I imagine that would be an occupation of mine.  Marketing a book is an all-new experience for me.  Thankfully, there are people who have done this before who are walking with me through this process.  Be on the lookout on my social media channels because a launch team will be put together soon.

Disappointing for Krisann

Please pray for our sweet Krisann.  She is super disappointed in Zine’s results from the doctor today.  While we are blessed by sweet gymnastics friends, Krisann is ready for life to be semi-normal again.  I did manage to slip in and watch the last twenty minutes of her practice one day this week.  This morning she asked, “If dad’s doctor’s appointment goes okay, will you pick me up from gymnastics?”  Tonight, she is sad and depressed, yet unable to articulate her emotions.  If you would pray for her precious little heart we would appreciate that greatly.  She will get some time with her brother tomorrow while Chloe and I are gone.  I’m sure that will be good for her soul. She sure loves him.

Thank You

Thank you for journeying with us through trauma, excitement, disappointment, grief, etc.  We are blessed by your care and prayers!

I am wondering if Zine would benefit from osteoporosis meds, most probably prolia injections. Some of them help build bone. Weight bearing helps buils bone. Would they agree to toe touch weight bearing/?
